The Puppy Training Process
We make sure you start the pups off on the right paw, and it's your job to continue the process!
Days 3 - 16
Between days 3 -16, the pups begin to see and hear. My team does Early Neurological Stimulation which involves 5 gentle, controlled stressors designed to stimulate the pup's neurological system and promote long term physical and psychological benefits.
First and foremost, each pup get lots of attention, love, hugs, and massages from family and friends (people the dam is comfortable with around her babies). They also have interactions with other family pets within and outside my home.
Weeks 3 to 8
As the pups continue to grow and weaning is started, the pup becomes more aware. I use a the pups' natural curiosity to create learning opportunities. In their indoor and outdoor play areas they have tunnels to explore, steps to conquer, pool water at different levels to adjust to, and many toys that will challenge and stimulate their senses.
During this stage I do sound desensitization training to get the puppies accustomed to environmental stimuli like doorbells, other dogs barking, emergency vehicles, blenders, vacuum cleaner and dryers.
Eventually we advance to thunderstorms and fireworks so that they learn to deal with the loud noises without getting overly stressed.
8 Weeks
By eight weeks, they will have an understanding of going potty outside through the doggy door, crate training, and grooming such as nail clipping, and brushing.
They engage on many surfaces and textures such as turf, grass, gravel, rock, slides and wobble boards. Also, they begin learning the commands “sit”, “come”, and ”leave it”.
Your Ongoing Training
It is crucial for your pup's (and your) benefit that you continue regular training. You may decide to learn training techniques yourself, take a class, or hire a professional trainer.
Whatever approach you take, you'll be glad you put in the time and effort!
